BIODIVERSITY BIBLIOGRAPHY of

ENVIRONMENT INFORMATION

NIUE First Edition

FOREWORD

This bibliography has been compiled to document what had been written and

researched about Niue’s biodiversity over the past years. It is a result of a

participatory process with all the necessary stakeholders in Niue who hold such

information. Thus the purpose of this bibliography is to determine how much had

been written about the biodiversity of Niue.

This document hoped to portray the vision into the 21st century of a vibrant and

dynamic society and especially the effort to document and compile every bit of vital

information about how our people respect and perceive our biodiversity. It is

important that Government must be seen to actively pursue a partnership with all

stakeholders in an effort to manage information regarding Niue’s biodiversity. This

must extend to the various institutions outside Niue who hold such information. A

mechanism to share this vital information must be completed to ensure that our

future generation does benefit.

At present, Niue has limited manpower hence funding and other institutional

constraints will seriously jeopardize our ability to manage our vital information

sustainably. This is a call for all Niueans in Niue and abroad to use this information

to enhance their respective knowledge about Niue’s biodiversity.

I must acknowledge the great financial assistance provided by the Global

Environment Facility (GEF) through UNDP in completing this mammoth task. I also

extend acknowledgments to Mrs Ligi Sisikefu and her assistants, Miss Sisimoka Ioane

and Miss Mellisa Talagi and to Mrs Judy Nemaia-Tanevesi, the Project Coordinator,

in compiling all the information for this Bibliography. The Government is grateful for

all the hard work you have done.

This is the first edition, and Government will ensure that this very important work will

continue into the future.
