The office will house SPREP officers who travel into the country on official SPREP business.

"SPREP continues to increase its presence and profile throughout the Pacific region. We recently opened an office in Fiji, and with the signing of the Host Country Agreement we have formalised SPREP's presence with FSM," said SPREP Director General Kosi Latu.

The Federated States of Micronesia is one of 21 Pacific island countries and territories who are members of SPREP, and the signing of the agreement was a testament to the country's commitment towards its obligations to the Secretariat.

The signing took place on 9 September, 2016 in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia.
