Strengthening efficiency across the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) through an upgraded internal intranet system will result in enhanced support for Members.
SPREP has launched its upgraded Fagogo Intranet, featuring a striking new design that transforms how staff interact with internal documents and information resources. The enhanced collaboration tools of the internal SPREP platform better support SPREP's regional work, while the updated technology reduces long-term maintenance costs.
The most noticeable change is the intranet's modern interface, which now matches SPREP's main website design. "The new look isn't just about aesthetics," explains Mr Christian Slaven, IT Manager of SPREP. "By aligning with our main website's design, we've created a cohesive digital experience that feels natural and familiar to our staff."
The reorganised navigation menu puts frequently accessed resources within easy reach.
"We analysed how staff use the intranet and restructured the menu accordingly," said Ms Miraneta Williams-Hazelman, Manager, Knowledge Management. "Common tasks like accessing leave forms or policies are now just a single click away."
A dedicated section for new staff members provides immediate access to orientation materials. New team members can now start their induction journey right away. They can access training videos and essential resources without waiting for the next scheduled induction session. Added to this is a new feature in which staff can now tailor their intranet homepage to their specific needs.
"Different teams have different priorities," notes Mr Ainsof So’o, Systems Developer and Analyst of SPREP. "Whether you're in finance, projects, or executive, you can now arrange your dashboard to showcase the tools and resources you use most frequently."
The upgrade to Drupal 10 brings crucial security updates and performance improvements.
"Behind the scenes, this upgrade significantly enhances our security posture while improving the overall speed and reliability of the platform," explains Mr So’o.
The upgrade also introduces an improved feedback system, making it easier for staff to suggest improvements and report issues.
Overall, the impacts upon the organisation through the upgraded intranet include increased staff productivity through intuitive navigation; faster onboarding process for new employees; enhanced information security; reduced training requirements; improved regional collaboration capabilities and lower IT maintenance overheads.
"This upgrade represents a significant step forward in how we support our staff's daily work for our Members," concluded Mr Slaven. "The combination of improved usability, enhanced security, and personalised features helps our teams focus on what matters most - SPREP's environmental protection mission across the Pacific region."
The launch of the upgraded SPREP Fagogo Intranet took place during a internal SPREP Seminar for staff on 27 February 2025.
