Climate Change Resilience
The Pacific Climate Change Portal, will house a database of national climate change projects in the region. The first regional training to help Pacific national counterparts upload content to the portal ended last week. This equipped participants from the Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu, with the skills to be able to maintain their country’s information on the portal.
Coordinated the by Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), the objectives of the workshop were also to identify user needs and establish a network of climate change portal editors and users.
“We also wanted to have a feel as to how the portal meets the needs of Pacific islands people, and this training was the opportunity to test the climate change portal and receive more feedback on improvements or additional features for the portal,” said Mrs. Makelesi Gonelevu, the Knowledge Management Officer at SPREP.
In addition to this training, participants were taught how to search the virtual libraries of the University of the South Pacific and the Secretariat of the Pacific Community, for climate change information.
Representatives from SPC, GIZ and the United Nations Development Programme also attended the training which was held at USP in Suva from November 6 to 8.
“We’d like to thank the governments and agencies present for their participation in the training,” said Mrs. Gonelevu.
“It is with the support from our partners that we can ensure this Pacific Climate Change Portal is a success for the whole region.”
