9 December 2019, Madrid, Spain - In this series, we will be introducing you to some of our Pacific island negotiators and delegates, who are the people representing our islands at the Climate Change negotiations now underway.
The Twenty-fifth Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP25) is hosted in Madrid, Spain from 2 – 13 December, 2019.
Pacific negotiators and delegates have been working in the rooms amplifying our Pacific voice and our Pacific asks. We hope you enjoy this series getting to know more of our Pacific Island negotiators and delegates.
Name: Mr Jeem Lippwe is fairly new to the UNFCCC COP process, this is his second COP with his first being COP24 in Katowice, Poland last year.

Q. How are you finding the UNFCCC COP process?
I thought the UN was complicated, but this is very complicated with too many meetings happening at the same time and with small delegations it’s very difficult to cover these meetings.
Q. What agenda issues are you covering at the COP 25?
I try as much as possible to attend as many meetings but more on the finance aspect of it so that and then of course a lot of the side events where I just gather more information and learn what is happening all over.
Q: What advice would you give to other young Pacific Islanders who would also like to be involved in this space and attend a COP one day?
I would say that this is one of the areas that as Pacific islanders, we should be looking out for, we should attend and be active in it, because this is our lives, climate change affects all of us and our Pacific youth – this is their future so they must take active participation in it and learn what is happening throughout
