Description

To address potential polluting wrecks which are mainly WWII Wrecks in FSM with funding support from Australia DFAT. The project will address a number of high priority wrecks in FSM, working closely with the Japan Mine Action Service (JMAS) who are already working on the wrecks removing oil. The project will support JMAS in the removal of oil, assess other potential polluting wrecks to identify actual oil on board, enhance contingency response capabilities for oil spill preparedness and response.

Objective

1.1 The objectives of the Project as follows:
(a) The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) is able to reduce the likelihood and impacts of oil spills from PPW by accelerating and enhancing the current efforts of the Japan Mine Action Service to remove oil trapped within the hulls of PPW in Chuuk Lagoon.
(b) FSM is able to better manage the PPW in Chuuk Lagoon through the provision of technical information gathered by JMAS through assistance provided by the Major Projects Foundation (MPF).
(c) FSM is able to enhance its contingency response capabilities to address oil pollution from PPW based on information and training
