Pacific Islands Regional Ocean Policy: working paper 6 [at the] 2nd SPC Heads of Fisheries Meeting, Noumean, New Caledonia, 23-27 July 2001

In 1999 the Forum Leaders (PIFS 1999) endorsed a list of recommendations emerging from a Forum Secretariat workshop on further implementing the provisions of the international law of the sea in the region. Although most of these recommendations could only be implemented by national governments, one of the recommendations – that a regional ocean policy be produced – was adopted at the regional level.
