Climate Change Resilience
The ACP group met in a special session in Brussels this month (October 28th to 29th) to ensure that their member delegations are well briefed and prepared for the upcoming UNFCCC COP 21, to be held in Paris, in December (November 30 to December 11th).
Technical experts from the Pacific region (SPREP and USP) were on hand to provide up to date briefs to ACP members in Brussels on key issues for the region, that were fed directly into an ACP Issues Paper for COP 21.
SPREP and USP provided updates on some of the outcomes from recently regional leaders events (including, but not limited to, the October Pacific Island Forum Secretariat Leaders Meeting, and the Suva Pacific Island Development Forum).
Dr Holland (from the University of the South Pacific) was also able to provide strong scientific arguments on why it was in the best interest for ACP countries to push for a deal in Paris that would limit global temperature change to well below 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Pacific countries represented in this ACP special event included Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Samoa and Papua New Guinea, who all played a strong part in developing the final ACP Issues paper for COP 21.
