The Vision Pasifika Media Award with the theme "Value Island Biodiversity – It's our Life" will now close on 1 February 2011. This environment media award acknowledges the work of Pacific journalists who publish articles promoting the awareness of our biodiversity.
Originally set to close on 14 January 2011, due to popular request the award deadline has been extended.
"If you are a Pacific reporter who has produced news articles on our Island Biodiversity then this award is for you," said Clive Hawigen the International Year of Biodiversity Pacific campaign coordinator.
"We'd really like your submissions, and with this extension there is still time to send them through to us either by the post or email."
Entries for the Vision Pasifika Media Award can be as innovative as you wish but must be based on the theme – "Value Island Biodiversity – It's our Life." Stories could showcase community projects, highlight how people are benefitting from biodiversity, promote good environment practices or even more investigative in style. They do not need to be limited to these suggestions.
"Any story that encompasses the need to protect or value our islands biodiversity should be submitted."
There are 5 categories all together – print, radio, television, journalism student and best overall. If you have an entry to submit please send to [email protected] or mail to PO Box 240, Apia, Samoa by 1 February.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the winning submissions that will be judged by a regional panel.
Winners of the Vision Pacific Media Award will also have their work featured in a special publication showcasing the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity celebrations in the Pacific.
