On a recent trip to the northern hemisphere, David Sheppard, Director General of the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), was able to share climate change issues faced in the Pacific region with the people of China.

Speaking to China Development Gateway, the official online source of information and development tools for the Chinese Government, Mr. Sheppard highlighted the work SPREP is doing in the region under the four key priorities outlined in the SPREP Strategic Plan; climate change, biodiversity and ecosystem management, waste management and pollution control, and environmental monitoring and governance.
Identifying climate change and waste management as key issues for SPREP, Mr. Sheppard drew attention to the vast experience China has in the areas of climate change adaptation and renewable energy, experience which would be invaluable for the Pacific.

Mr. Sheppard was in Beijing for one week in discussions with relevant Chinese agencies outlining what SPREP is doing as well as discussing opportunities for joint cooperation in the future.
