Key media leaders of the Pacific now have a stronger understanding of climate change following a one day training coordinated by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) in Honiara.
Seminars on climate change science and the international climate change process were presented by Officials of the Solomon Islands Government. Of strong interest was a session on Ecosystem based Adaptation focusing on a project in the Choiseul province as well as the Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change Project in the Solomon Islands which then led to a field trip visit.
This training is one of a series of activities under a project in partnership with the Pacific Australia Climate Change Science Adaptation Planning Programme that aims to help strengthen the understanding of climate change by the Pacific media; and enhance the media skills of Pacific climate change practitioners. It is funded by the Australian Department of Industry, Innovation, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education; and AusAID.
Over 20 participants from the Cook Islands, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Vanuatu and regional freelance media attended.
