Climate Change Resilience
2015 once again brought together member countries of the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) to the one day Pacific sub annual conference of the Asia Pacific Adaptation Network (APAN) held at the SPREP campus in Samoa on the 25th of February, back to back with the Food Security forum which took place at the beginning of the week.
This year the focus of the APAN conference was on communications and knowledge management, and was attended by six national focal points from the Cook Islands, Fiji, Palau, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. The meeting was conducted by SPREP and APAN with the use of in-house expertises and experience from both organisations. SPREP has been a partner, and sub regional node, of APAN since 2011 and the ongoing relations between the two organisations provide the opportunity to continue to build the capacity of pacific islanders to strengthen the resilience of islands to adapt to the changes incurred by the unpredictability of today's climate.
The objective of the event was to enhance the skills of Pacific Island officials to utilise communications and knowledge management as tools for adaptation and raise the awareness of the attendees on APAN and how the organisation can better support adaptation in the Pacific. Outcomes of the meeting recommended agreed actions for future activities between countries and the organisations, the training raised the understanding of how communication and knowledge management can support participants with their adaptation objectives and informed the officials of APAN and how the organisation operates.
