As the curtain fell on the inaugural Science Conference 2017 at the NUS Mountainside campus last week, participants and organisers alike agreed that it was a success.
The three-day conference, which was guided by the theme "Science and Technology for Sustainable Development" was organised through a joint partnership between the National University of Samoa's (NUS) and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP).

SPREP's Director General, Mr Kosi Latu speaking to officially close the conference, thanked the participants and presenters alike for their contributions to promoting research in science and technology and the sharing of knowledge.
"The Science Conference 2017 brought together a broad range of stakeholders – scientists, researchers, practitioners, government and private sector and those from around the region," said Mr Latu.
"It has been about building networks and enhancing partnerships, and has highlighted the critical role of science and technology in achieving sustainable development."
He also acknowledged the importance of science in policy and informed decision making, and that science and technology are at the heart of many sustainable development issues.
These comments were also shared by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Peseta Dr. Desmond Lee Hang in his closing remarks on behalf of NUS.
