Environmental Monitoring and Governance
The newly launched Pacific Network for Environmental Assessment (PNEA) helps island members of the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) to request assistance with environmental planning and assessment.
The PNEA is a web-based tool that is focused on environmental impact assessment (EIA) and strategic environmental assessment (SEA), and is an initiative by the Environmental Monitoring and Governance division of SPREP.
"We're really pleased to be able to launch this new site which provides another option for government officials to request assistance with tasks such as the development or review of EIA or SEA legislation, writing approval conditions for new developments, EIA or SEA training and capacity building, and strengthening EIA or SEA for specific sectors including urban development, tourism, energy, mining and agriculture" said Ms Melanie Bradley, Environmental Planning Officer of SPREP.
"The PNEA also provides access to publicly-available EIA and SEA reports from Pacific island countries, and highlights EIA and SEA news and events relevant to the Pacific region."
The Pacific Network for Environmental Assessment (https://pnea.sprep.org/) site complements the current capacity building programme for environmental impact assessment and strategic environmental assessment. This includes the recently launched Regional EIA Guidelines.
