Climate Change Resilience
The revamped Pacific Climate Change Portal (www.pacificclimatechange.net) is now online and available for use.
Known as PCCP Version 2.0 the upgrade of this one-stop-shop for Pacific islands climate change information was made possible through a partnership between the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), Griffith University through the Australian Government's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) funded Pacific iCLIM Project and the GIZ Coping with Climate Change in the Pacific Islands Region Project.
"If you are a regular visitor to the PCCP you will definitely notice the upgrade," said Ms. Makelesi Gonelevu, SPREP's Knowledge Management Officer.
"The new improved features will enhance the user experience and content discovery through the use of a predefined list of climate change topics used to tag the various content types. It also provides more user friendly user interfaces."
Along with an update of key content on the PCCP such as the country profiles, donor database and educational resources which was supported by GIZ, the new features in the upgrade include:
• Regional Search for Documents and Projects which indexes the metadata for Documents and Projects for the PCCP, Pacific Disaster Network (PDN), Pacific Solution Exchange and the Fiji, Tonga (both currently undergoing an upgrade) and Vanuatu National Climate Change Portal;
• Donor Database – searchable database of funds relevant for the Pacific
• Climate Change Projects Database – searchable database of climate change projects in the Pacific;
• Documents Library search collection of over 1000 documents relevant to the Pacific.
• Country profiles summary of climate change initiatives in 15 PICTs.
• Education Resources – searchable resources for education practitioners.
Currently in development are the decision support tools for climate finance to assist countries in accessing the Green Climate Fund and the adaptation pathways tool to assist Pacific island countries and territories in adaptation planning.
The updating of the Pacific Climate Change Portal was made possible through a partnership culminating SPREP, Griffith University, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Pacific Community, University of the South Pacific, Pacific Island Forum Secretariat and the United Nations Development Programme's Pacific Solutions Exchange.
SPREP also wishes to acknowledge the contributions from the Climate Change Divisions of the three pilot countries Fiji, Tonga and Vanuatu.
