Climate Change Resilience
The Vanuatu government, in close partnership with GIZ, SPREP, PIFS and the University of the South Pacific (USP) School of Law, worked together last month (13 – 16th October), to prepare their national delegation for the upcoming United Nations climate negotiations, which will be held this year in Paris.

This workshop saw delegates not only receive technical briefings on issues relevant to the negotiations, but also be provided with opportunities to enhance their skills in the areas of textual drafting and negotiations.

Vanuatu delegates fine tune negotiating skills for Paris

One of the key outputs of the Vanuatu workshop was the fine tuning of national position statements on all key areas related to the COP, including on the level of ambition needed to mitigate climate change; finance, adaptation and loss and damage, and also cross cutting issues such as gender, human rights and traditional knowledge.

Vanuatu has worked hard to build the skill set of this multidisciplinary team, who will be responsible for leading their countries positions in to the upcoming 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Climate Change Convention, in Paris.

GIZ were largely responsible for the organisation of this three day training event, utilising the skills and expertise of regional agencies such as SPREP, PIFs and USP to deliver the content.
