Climate Change Resilience
A large number of participants from pacific governments, donor agencies, regional organisations, media, non government actors and private sector have started arriving in Samoa to attend and engage in the Pacific Climate Change Roundtable (PCCR) discussion which will take place from the 12-14 May 2015 in Apia and will be opened by the distinguished Prime Minister of Samoa, Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Neioti Aiono Sailele Malielegaoi.

The roundtable meeting is also an opportunity to meet donors and organisations at a "market place" session and there will also be side events that highlight some regional climate change activities and will involve pacific country speakers who will share lessons learnt.

The PCCR is a meeting that brings together stakeholders involved in climate change activities in the Pacific region. It is the premier forum in our region to share ideas on climate change and to ensure coordination in support of Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs) efforts on climate change.

The 2015 PCCR is a very crucial platform as it will determine overall progress, and consider how the PIFACC and the Regional Disaster Risk Management Framework for Action (RDRM), now combined into the Strategy for Climate and Disaster Resilient Development Plan (SRDP) will be implemented by the climate change community. This single regional strategy will encompass all climate change and natural disaster issues from 2015 onwards, when both PIFACC and RDRM expire.

The PCCR will also provide Pacific Island Countries delegations to the Paris Conference of the Parties with further relevant information to guide their decision making. It will also guide requests to development partners, including the financial mechanism of the United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change (UNFCCC) in terms of emerging issues or trends. The PCCR will identify emerging gaps requiring priority action and make adjustments to existing activities to accommodate priorities in future. The regional organisations will, where necessary, provide support and a coordinating role for regional and international reporting.
