The management and staff of SPREP are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Taule’ale’ausumai Laavasa Malua, Chief Executive Officer of Samoa’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment over the weekend.
“We will all mourn the loss of a good friend of SPREP and a dynamic leader of the Samoa Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. One of Samoa's brightest stars has gone out,” said SPREP’s Director General, Mr David Sheppard.
“Our most sincere condolences, prayers, and best wishes are with his family at this most difficult time.” Taule’ale’ausumai was a keen supporter of the work of SPREP and was well known for his dedication to environmental management and protection in Samoa.
He had most recently participated in the Pacific Islands Conference on Nature Conservation and Protected Areas held in Suva, Fiji at which he showed his usual passion and drive through his active involvement throughout the week and support and encouragement to SPREP staff.
The Nature Conservation Conference was Taule’ale’a’s last official engagement before his sudden passing away.
