In 1960, people of Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands were summoned to move to 'Ebeye Island'vacating their land for US Millitary use. This is a moving illustration on the cost of military dominance and the extremity of problems faced by those left to bear the cost. At the end of the US lease with the Marshallese Islanders, the landowners moved back onto their land despite US opposition. The US Military refused to move out claiming that they would only deal with the duly formed Government and not the local landowners. Despite strong opposition, a new lease for 30 years was signed expiring in the year 2016, on a rental rate of 9 million dollars a year.
