Nesting on the Verge of Extinction : Seychelles :Wildlife Documentary on the Hawksbill Turtle

In Seychelles, the Hawkesbill turtle is hunted for it's scales and other profits to be made in the Tourism Industry. Such practices, unregulated as they are, are quickly depleting the population of this turtle species. The World Wildlife Fund for Nature International set up a program to study the effects of hunting by conducting several activities such as tagging nesting turtles. The program lasted for 3 years and continue in some National Parks. Data collected predicts a continuing growth of extinction unless we have some sort of regulation as well as learning turtle behaviour! With such measures in place, we can be assured of the protection of this marine animal as well as the protection and preservation of Seychelle culture, embeded in the history and survival of this creature.
