Hubert Géraux has been a “real naturalist” since childhood. Passionate ornithologist, he has been very involved in student naturalist clubs. He graduated with a Master's degree in geography and ecology from the University of Lyon.
He began his involvement for the WWF in 1992 as an eco-volunteer for the protection of marine turtles and the inventory of birds for a RAMSAR site project in French Guiana. Once his studies were completed, he moved there in 1995 to carry out his civic service in charge of the inventory of Guyanese natural heritage then continued his professional commitment to the environment in an environmental design office while making a strong commitment to within the local association for the study and protection of birds. In 1999, he opened the 1st overseas office of WWF-France there.
Hubert left for New Caledonia in 2001 to set up a second overseas WWF-France office and in 2010 he became the manager. In 2004, he was awarded the prize for the young hope of conservation where he developed an ambitious conservation project in the Gohapin tribe in New Caledonia. Since April 2021, he has continued his collaboration with WWF in New Caledonia as a conservation and advocacy expert.
