31 August 2022, Nadi, Fiji - The European Union (EU) has acknowledged the positive audit report for the Intra ACP GCCA+ Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change and Resilience Building (PACRES) Project.
The acknowledgement was offered by the EU’s Programme Manager for PACRES, Mr Gabor Sasvari, during the third PACRES Project Steering Committee at Novotel Hotel in Nadi, Fiji, in the presence of country representatives and partners to discuss the progress and the best way forward.
The audit report for Years 1 and 2 for the period of implementation found that out of a sampled amount of EUR 218.000,62, no financial findings were identified. This in light of the challenges encountered due to COVID-19 where the engagement with Pacific members was conducted remotely using multiple agencies based in the various countries in the region, is a remarkable achievement, the EU noted.
“The successful audit report has been noted by the European Union and we want to commend everyone involved for the work done. I would like to congratulate your teams and commend the PMU and the co-delegates and encourage that this good work continues,” said Mr Sasvari.
“The European Union remains committed and will continue to support climate change adaptation in the Pacific and to coordinate and partner with the CROP agencies to deliver concrete results in line with the strategies elaborated by the Pacific governments.”
The €12.18 million PACRES is funded primarily by the European Union (EU) with targeted support from Monaco and the Swiss Confederation and is delivered jointly by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programmme (SPREP), the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS), the Pacific Community (SPC) and the University of the South Pacific (USP).
PACRES aims to improve regional, national adaptation and mitigation solutions to climate change concerns faced in 15 Pacific ACP countries. The 15 Pacific ACP countries are: Cook Islands, Fiji, Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu
SPREP’s PACRES Acting Manager, Mr Semi Qamese, expressed his gratitude to the European Union and all the partners for their work.
“We are already witnessing the beneficial impacts of the work being done in our Pacific communities which would not have been possible without the support from the European Union, Monaco and the Swiss Confederation and all our partners,” he said. “We are extremely grateful.”
The PACRES Project Steering Committee Meeting is being held from 30 September 2022 until 01 September 2022.
