The call for side events is out now for the Moana Blue Pacific Pavilion at the COP29 in November this year. Moana Blue Pacific at the twenty-ninth Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) is a Pacific partnership with the Governments of New Zealand and Australia managed by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP).
Established since COP24, the Moana Blue Pacific Pavilion is the platform to amplify our One Pacific voice showcasing our climate change challenges and solutions to the thousands of delegates at the event. This popular hub brings our Pacific Islands to the COP, which enables our Pacific stories to be shared empowering Pacific voices outside of the negotiation’s spaces.

At COP28 in Dubai last year, the Moana Blue Pacific Pavilion hosted over 75 side events across the two-week period, featuring over 400 panelists of which over 300 were Pacific Islands voices.
“Now a popular brand at the Climate Change Conferences of the Parties, this space brings our Pacific Islands warmth while telling our stories. It has become our island home away from home to many who know very little about our island’s region. We are proud to manage this space that amplifies our Pacific Islands voices showcasing our region to the world,” said Ms Tagaloa Cooper, Director of Climate Change Resilience of SPREP.
The call for side events closes at 4.30pm on 6 September (Samoa date and time).
The Moana Blue Pacific at COP29 encompasses two key areas, the Pavilion which enables us to amplify our One Pacific Voice and the Pacific Delegation Office that empowers our One Pacific Voice.
Both will be in action at COP29. The Pacific Delegation Office allows our Pacific Islands to strategise and prepare for negotiations throughout the two-week period. Given the Pacific Islands delegations are small individually, when working together as a combined Pacific Islands delegation the opportunities for our region to raise our voices at the table, are many.
The Pacific Delegation Office at COP29, a Pacific partnership with the New Zealand Government managed by SPREP is the safe space that allows negotiation coordination to happen in confidence. It also welcomes many high-level delegations to hold bilateral meetings, there were over 1,000 users and over 120 meetings were held across a two-week period at COP28.
Growth has happened in many ways on the Moana Blue Pacific journey. While the Pavilion size has increased, and the introduction of the Pacific Delegation Office, the partnership support has also grown with the Government of Australia supporting the Pavilion since COP28 and committing to do so to COP30.
“The Moana Blue Pacific Pavilion showcases the Pacific’s strong history of climate leadership and advocacy, while providing a platform for Pacific people to tell Pacific stories on the international stage,” said Australia's Ambassador for Climate Change, Kristin Tilley.
“Australia is proud to support the Pavilion and continue working together as the Blue Pacific to leverage our collective strength and address climate change more effectively.”
