Operate a giant clam culture demonstration station to be used for training, extension and economic feasibility studies; develop a seedstock produiction technology for Pacific threadfin, Polydactylus sexfilis; improve the efficiency of commerrcial sponge farms by conducting several experimental studies at the demonstration nursery farm in Pohnpei, federated states fo Micronesia; identify the contributing factors that may be important to the occurrence to bacterial desease during growout of Chinese catfish (Clarias fuscus); the overall goal of this program is to reduce the uncertainty, time and cost of obtaining aquaculture effluent discharge permits and the cost of stisfying aquaculture effluent discharge regulations; provide extension and training support to private aquaculturists and to government fisheries and aquaculture staff to develop commercial and subsistence aquaculture crops; identify primary and secondary causes of gill discoloration in market sized penaeid shrimp in Guam; review th international national and Hawaii technical and regulatory status of tilapia stocks and strains related to improvement fo the tilapia aquaculture industry in Hawaii; enhance information transfer within the Pacific region through the Pacific regional aquaculture information service for education using CD-ROM database searching, telecommunications and new technologies as they develop; establish an aquatic an animal quarantine area at the University of Guam Marine Laboratory; the overall goal fo this project is to coordinate activities for investigational new animal drugs and new animal drug applications to expedite government approval for the use of various compounds in aquaculture; import and evaluate the culture potential of several ornamental fish species; maintain and spawn milkfish broodstock to produce eggs and conduct larval rearing trials to produce fry; demonstrate under controlled laboratory conditions the transmissiona nd effectivity of the Gracilaria gall syndrome agent, and characterize the bacterial communities associated with GGS affected tissue
