International Forum on Forecasting El Nino

To further broaden our understanding with the dissemination of current information on the El Nino phenomena, an international Forum of officials from around the world met to discuss and vow continuous support for previous and existing research on the causes and effects of El Nino. The purpose of the conference was to determine and evaluate current information, and identify the best possible methods with which this information can be used. There was remarkable concensus amongst forum delegates. An agreement reached was three-fold : Readiness to provide required assistance, institutional changes and stregthening, and stronger support from developed countries. Officials from various institutions presented papers during the meeting including USAID Administrator, forum delegate from Brazil, and Prof. Michael McElroy of Harvard University.
