United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD)
Land - Degradation - Loss - Biodivesity
Environmental - Biological - Threats - Global
Actions - Address - Crises - Global
Land - Degradation - Target - Humans
Land degradation and the loss of biological diversity are the two most pressing environmental threats facing humanity. Both are eroding the planetary life support systems on which the prosperity and well-being of current and future generations depend. Action to address these crises, as well as the gathering of climate emergency has so far been inadequate and transformative change on all the continents and all scales is needed in order to ward off the most serious risks to our economies, societies and the natural world. Raising awareness of Earth's enironmantal challenges has intensified the search for solutions, including withih the United Nations system. Addressing such complex problems requires policies and interventions that recognize the interconnectedness of natural and human systems and integrate multiple goals, maximizing synergies and minimizing negative trade-offs.
