NEMS : National Environmental Management Strategy - Kiribati

Environmental problems in Kiribati range from water pollution, coastal erosion and loss of vegetation, to solid and liquid waste disposal concerns. To address these, SPREP worked in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Kiribati to develop a National Environmental Management Strategy, or NEMS, designed to assist islands with their environmental problems by evaluating and developing strategies required to address them. Strategies such as the Environmental Impact Assessment or EIA, which reviews the effects certain developments have on the environment.
