A report on the OK Tedi Mine (BHP) mining activities, and the Global Conference on Small Islands in Barbados, with interviews from the Director of SPREP, Dr. Vili Fuavao, and Greenpeace International representative, Pene Lefale. The report from Rex Dharki follows claims for compensation from mining activities of the OK Tedi Mine. Rex Dharki is representing Muribiki clan seeking compensation. Nick Steinbrown, an environmental lawyer with Slater & Gordon, explains legal processes over damage claims from the community and reasons for these claims. The Global Conference on Sustainable Development of small islands in Barbados discussed issues such as climate change, waste treatment, sea level rise etc. Dr. Vili Fuavao was present at this conference and believes that it was a possitive exercise for those involved. Greenpeace International representative Pene Lefale however stated that there wasn't enough representation from industrialised nations which showed lack of commitment. He goes on further to say that the conference was "an important and unique historic mark in the United Nations System with regards to their recognition of Small Island Nations.
