The Pacific's environmental agency is looking to increase the region's input into climate change decisions made at a global level. SPREP is co-hosting a workshop in Samoa with the Australian scientific research body, the CSIRO, to develop a regional strategy for climate research. Considering the direct impact of a warming planet and a changing environment on Pacific countries, the region has had little input into climate change negotiations at the United Nations or Intergovernmental Panel. SPREP's meteorology and climate officer Salesa Nihmei says this workshop aims to change that. Mr Nihmei told Dominic Godfrey that key regional stakeholders are in Apia to work on a research strategy that will benefit the global fight against climate change.
