RETA : Regional Environment Technical Assistance

RETA was implemented through SPREP with financial assistance from ASB and the IUCN. RETA objectives were to develop National Environmental Management Strategy Training for the countries involved, implement and support environmental goals, and increase community awareness. NEMS was later developed to identify key environmental issues in each country. Other issues addressed in NEMS are waste management in the Republic of Marshall Islands, coastal erosion in the Cook Islands, and Waste management in the FSM and Tonga. It is hoped that NEMS for each country not only serves as a guide for local community, but aid external sources for technical and financial assistance.
