Science Education in Tonga: Science Syllabus for Secondary School Forms 1 to 5

Schools in Tonga vary enormously from pre-school to tertiary levels. The comparisons are even more diverse when comparing the Government and the Mission Schools. Science Education in Tonga is underwritten by strong cultural influences from the past and the present day. The Tongan Islands lie in a unique geographical and geological setting including some of the richest and most diverse environments. These cultural influences and natural environments should form the basis for an integrated and relevant course for the students of Tonga while, at the same time providing students with a Science foundation of an international standard. It is the intention of this Syllabus to provide Tongan students with a science course which will fulfill national goals and reinforce traditional ways of life.
