The Inshore reefs and lagoons have provides first landed on these shores, over two millennia ago. Western Samoa’s reefs and lagoons are limited in area compared with most other South Pacific Islands, and there are few offshore reefs and shoals. The 200 mile EEZ is amongst the smallest in the region. However, because the traditional population (About 30,000 at first Western contact) was relatively small and a system of sea tenure safeguarded against overfishing the inshore fishes were sustained
