The use of water balances for water resources estimation, with special reference to small islands.

Water balance and turnover time concepts are presented and developed in the context of small flat islands which have no surface runoff. Three main ares of appliation can be identified. The water balance of roof and storage tank systems, grounwater lenses, and the unsaturated soil water zone above the water - table.
